The Most Visited Cities In Europe
If I had to be placed in the middle of any continent in the world and was told I had the whole summer to explore it, Europe would top that list without a shadow of a doubt. Of course there are fascinating countries in Asia, South America and Africa, but nowhere else is there such a mish mash of cultures, ancient and modern architecture and some of the most fun and welcoming people on the planet. It’s no surprise then that Europe has some of the most popular cities in the world for tourists, so with this list I’m going to go through Europe’s most visited cities. If you haven’t been to one of these, book the next flight!
1. London, England
London takes the top spot, a position it can interchange easily with number two on this list. With it being so easy to find tickets to one of the many airports as well as an abundance of tourist attractions, it’s no wonder London is the most visited city on the continent. There are some of the world’s best museums here, making it a city for every season, and famous attractions such as Big Ben, Westminster, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park. To top it off, London has some of the coolest spots for young people, with the gentrified Shoreditch, Brixton and Camden proving popular among students and young professionals.
2. Paris, France
The French capital has an irresistible aura which continues to lure tourists year after year, for their first visit or their fiftieth visit. Whether visiting in spring, summer, autumn or winter, there’s never a dull moment, with marvellous museums, delightful cuisine and impressive architecture all around. The Eiffel Tower is one of the world’s most famous structures, while the Champs-Élysées is an amazing avenue leading directly to the Arc de Triomphe.
3. Berlin, Germany
Berlin is the capital of and biggest city in Germany, with its historical and cultural importance visible throughout the city. It’s a city which has gained popularity amongst students, artists and other creatives that come to the city in search of inspiration. It’s definitely the top nightlife destination on this list (sorry, London) and has iconic landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall and the Reichstag to captivate visitors.
4. Rome, Italy
With the breathtakingly beautiful architecture, monuments and vistas of the city, Rome is an unmissable stop on any European tour. It attracts visitors due to the multitude of attractions, the always delicious Italian food and roasting hot summer weather.
5. Barcelona, Spain
The only city on this list that is not that country’s capital, Barcelona is popular amongst tourists of all types. Beach bums, art enthusiasts, foodies and lovers of long city walks are all enchanted by the cornerstone of Catalonia, with highlights including the awe-inspiring Sagrada Familia, the inventive Park Guell and Las Ramblas, the most famous street in the city.
