Vosges Square
In the middle of the Marais district on the border of the 3rd and 4th arrondissements, not far from the Saint-Paul and Chemin Vert metro stations , is the famous Vosges Square, which is a historic monument and is the oldest square in the city , It is surrounded by elegant houses made of red brick with blue slate roofs and has a beautiful little park that invites you to stroll.
Since its creation in the 17th century, this important place in Paris has changed its name several times: Royal Square under the rule of Henry IV, then Federated Square, weapons manufacturing square, before finally being renamed the Vosges Square in 1800 because the department of the same name was the first to pay the revolutionary tax levied at the time under the French Revolution.
While walking under the beautiful arcades you will discover the house where Victor Hugo lived from 1832 to 1848. Number 6 is now a museum about the life and work of one of the most famous authors of French literature. The Vosges Square is also known for the fact that many political and artistic personalities live here.
In the middle of the square is the small Louis XIII park with its fountain, equestrian statue and green meadows, where you can take a pleasant break from your sightseeing.
