Père-Lachaise cemetery
The symbolic cemetery of Paris, Père-Lachaise, is not only the largest but also the most famous in the capital with 44 hectares. This most visited cemetery in the world owes its name to the confessor of King Louis XIV, François d’Aix de la Chaise, and it houses the tombs of famous people such as Chopin, Molière, La Fontaine, Daudet, Musset and Oscar Wilde , Jim Morrison, Edith Piaf, Simone Signoret, Yves Montand, Alain Bashung and Marie Trintignant, to name a few.
Located in the 20th arrondissement and accessible via the Père Lachaise, Gambette and Philippe Auguste metro stations, the Père-Lachaise cemetery contains a whole series of grave monuments and other majestic graves that make this peaceful-looking English-style garden a real open-air museum! Between tombs in Haussman style, ancient mausoleums and Gothic tombs, you will also come across the impressive monument to the dead by the sculptor Bartholomé, which is a listed historical monument.
